THE SYNOPSIS
For the Marvel blockbuster “Avengers: Endgame,” our VFX supervisor Kelly Port and our team of 310 artists from Vancouver and LA produced 337 VFX shots. Our team was responsible for a total of seven sequences for the film including the Epic Battle sequence, which takes place in Nebula’s holding cell where Gamora attempts to spur her to fight back, the Sanctuary Nebula Torture sequence where Thanos reviews Nebula’s ‘memories’ and witnesses his own death in a hologram, and the Titan 2 Yurt sequence where the retired Thanos rencounters the Avengers who take one last shot at taking back the stones among others.
Because this was a continuation of our work from “Avengers: Infinity War,” our VFX team was able to take a lot of what they learned and translate it over to Endgame, allowing us to update and improve our assets and workflow. We added more fidelity to our Thanos asset including more resolution in the model and textures, and we updated his rig and added additional controls, especially in the face to allow more refined facial performances.
Additionally, we further advanced our Masquerade software almost fully automating the marker tracking system and added robustness to extreme lighting conditions, creating an even more photoreal Thanos asset.
